Beau Thetford BS, EIT

Ecohydrologist I

Beau is an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) working out of cbec’s West Sacramento office. Beau supports cbec’s field services efforts by conducting multibeam sonar bathymetric surveys, as well as river substrate mapping using underwater photography and side-scan sonar. He also supports cbec’s efforts in research and development by designing computer programs and workflows for spatial data analysis and ecoinformatics. Beau attended Cal Poly Humboldt, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in both Environmental Resources Engineering and Mathematics. His studies focused on hydrology, open-channel hydraulics, fluvial geomorphology, stream restoration, and natural systems of wastewater treatment, often utilizing concepts from mathematical physics such as functional and numerical analysis. From a previous role as an engineering research assistant in Northern California, Beau gained experience in post-project monitoring and surveying of stream restoration. His software experience consists of QGIS, ArcGIS, Hypack, and CloudCompare, with programming experience in R, Python, Fortran, and LaTeX. Beau has experience developing hydrologic models using HEC-HMS and SWMM, hydrodynamic models using HEC-RAS and SRH-2D, and groundwater flow models using MODFLOW. Outside of work, Beau enjoys rock climbing and mountaineering, gardening, and woodworking.
