cbec prides itself on the extensive level of practical and academic experience held by its staff and management.
the core of our success
Chris Bowles PhD, PE
Managing Director / Ecoengineer
Chris is a registered civil engineer specializing in hydraulics, hydrology, geomorphology, water resources, water quality and environmental restoration. He has worked tirelessly to provide innovative and holistic solutions for our water environment.
Director / Ecohydrologist
Chris Campbell has more than sixteen years of engineering and project management experience. He specializes in hydrodynamics, physical hydrology, sediment transport, geomorphology, water resources, and ecosystem restoration.
Chris Hammersmark PhD, PE
Director / Ecohydrologist
Chris is a registered civil engineer specializing in hydraulics, hydrology, geomorphology, water quality, ecology, and ecosystem rehabilitation/restoration.
Alexandria Valle has been our administrative assistant since 2016 and directly under the Operations Manager and Business Office Manager. She assists in all aspects of the administrative duties.
Alexis’ responsibilities include operations, human resources, health and safety, administration planning, marketing, project management and the business office.
At cbec, Abe performs a combination of field work and desk-based analyses to characterize hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology and sediment transport processes of California streams and rivers.
April Sawyer MS
April has extensive experience in fluvial geomorphology, hydraulic modeling, and aquatic biology with an emphasis on river restoration.
Ben Taber BS, PE
Ben has a background in Civil Engineering with practical experience in hydraulics, hydrology, hydrodynamics, geomorphology, flood management, water quality, and sediment transport.
Doug Shields, Jr. PhD, PE, D.WRE, F.ASCE, F.EWRI
Senior Scientific Advisor
Doug is a civil engineer specializing in hydraulics, geomorphology, water quality and restoration of freshwater aquatic and riparian habitats and is an international leader in river restoration research and practice.
Gavin Downs MS
Gavin has experience in a wide range of field data collection techniques as well as 1D and 2D modeling of hydrologic processes. He enjoys applying his knowledge to maintain and restore waterways.
Greg Shellenbarger Eng, MS
Greg has expertise in a variety of fieldwork and analysis including estuarine sediment transport, time-series analysis of water quality variables, dissolved oxygen cycling, and using geochemical tracers to understand coastal nutrient supply.
John Stofleth MS, PE
John is adept at evaluating and implementing projects that require complex hydraulic and geomorphic solutions and has great experience in hydraulic engineering, fluvial geomorphology and watershed ecology.
Jon Parsons MS, EIT
Jon provides expertise on fish passage improvement, environmental rehabilitation, and erosion control projects via initial fieldwork, hydrologic analysis, hydraulic modeling, drafting and design, and record surveys.
Luke is qualified in Environmental Sciences and Hydrology and has worked extensively in the Colorado Rocky Mountains studying climate-driven altitudinal shifts through remote sensing, geospatial modeling, and field work.
Michael joins the cbec team with experience in the Central Coast, Tahoe Basin, and Western rangelands, and specialties in rangeland restoration, vadose and groundwater modeling, and surface water modeling of urban systems.
Nick Southall MSc
Nick is an experienced project manager with close to two decades of river restoration experience. His work has spanned the watershed from headwater streams, through rural and urban landscapes, into estuarine systems.
Rafael has experience in fluvial geomorphology, water quality, and hydrogeology and has applied his multidisciplinary background to investigate flood management practices, salmonid habitat conservation, and surface-groundwater interactions.
