Greg Shellenbarger Eng, MS

Senior Ecohydrologist I/Field Services Manager

Greg is cbec’s Field Services Manager. He joined cbec in 2017 with a background in marine ecology and hydrodynamic controls on water quality and sediment transports. He has over 25 years of experience, with expertise in a variety of fieldwork techniques and analysis, including sediment transport, time-series analysis of water quality variables, dissolved oxygen cycling, and using geochemical tracers to understand coastal nutrient supply. At cbec, Greg oversees fieldwork and instrument training, team scheduling, field troubleshooting, equipment and resource management, and serves as a project manager primarily for projects in the Delta. Greg worked with the U.S. Geological Survey on water quality and sediment transport projects in and around San Francisco Bay and the Delta for more than a decade. Much of his work supported the multi-decadal South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Bowling Green State University, a master’s in Marine Ecology from Northeastern University, and an Engineer Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering through the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory at Stanford University. He enjoys fieldwork and learning new instrumentation and methods, and truly understands that a good day in the field is better than a good day in the office.
